Your first orthodontic visit, step by step
You do not need to know whether you want braces or clear aligners before coming in. Start with what brought you here.
For a child, that might be crowding or a recommendation from the dentist. For an adult, it might be a bite that feels off, teeth that have shifted, or a smile you have wanted to change for years.
Tell us your story
We begin with your concerns, dental and medical history, and goals. Tell us about previous orthodontic treatment, jaw discomfort, or breathing and sleep concerns you want to discuss.
Meet Dr. Vanderstelt
Dr. Vanderstelt examines your teeth and bite and considers how the jaw and facial structure fit into the picture. For children, growth and the arrival of permanent teeth are part of that conversation.
Look at your records together
Digital photos and an iTero® scan help us show you your teeth and bite without traditional impression trays. Our office also uses i-CAT 3D imaging. Dr. Vanderstelt will explain which records are appropriate and what they help her evaluate.
Understand the recommendation
We explain whether treatment makes sense, which options fit, and the expected timeline. That may mean discussing braces, clear aligners, or monitoring before starting anything.
Review the fee and your next step
If treatment is recommended, we review the plan, fee, insurance benefits, and payment options. You can take time to think, talk with your family, or ask follow-up questions.

What does the consultation cost?
Your orthodontic consultation at aligned. is complimentary. Treatment has its own fee, based on your needs and plan.
Airway, TMD, and jaw surgery evaluations are booked separately. Our team will confirm the right visit and any fee before you schedule; these evaluations are complimentary for children 13 and under.
A treatment plan you can review
Our team will walk you through the total treatment fee, what is included, estimated insurance benefits, and the payment options available. We offer interest-free payment plan options and accept HSA/FSA funds.
For a child, ask whether the recommendation involves one phase or two, and how each phase is priced. For adults, talk about fitting visits and treatment into work and everyday life.
“Not yet” can be a useful answer. A consultation does not commit you to treatment. If monitoring is the right next step, we will explain what we are watching and when to return.

Our Platt Park office is near Washington Park and convenient for families coming from University Park, Englewood, and the surrounding Denver neighborhoods.
Free parking is behind the building. Access the alley from E. Arizona Avenue or E. Louisiana Avenue.
Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–4:30 pm. Closed every other Monday and Friday; confirm your appointment time with our team.

Is the orthodontic consultation at aligned. complimentary?
Yes. Our standard orthodontic consultation is complimentary. Airway, TMD, and jaw surgery evaluations are booked separately and are complimentary for children 13 and under. Our team will confirm any fee for your visit before you schedule.
How long should I allow for my first visit?
Plan for about an hour for your orthodontic consultation. When you book, our team can confirm the appointment length and any forms to complete beforehand.
Do I need a referral from my dentist?
No. You can book directly with aligned. Orthodontics. If your dentist has recommended treatment or has recent records, tell us so we can coordinate.
Will I get braces at the consultation?
The first visit is about understanding your teeth, bite, options, and costs. If you are ready to begin, ask our team what can be scheduled and whether a same-day start is possible for your case. You do not have to decide that day.
Can I come in for a second opinion?
Yes. Bring the recommendation you received and any questions about it. Dr. Vanderstelt will explain her findings and whether she recommends treatment, monitoring, or a different approach.
